FRACTURED

To be fractured is to be shattered, broken, hurt, fragmented, cracked, defaced… These words, and the emotions they come with including past and present experiences inspired our SS22 collection. Fractured to some individuals, is a case of “broken bone” to others, it’s being heartbroken, lonely, rejected, abused, sick, staying quiet, becoming an orphan or losing someone. 20:10:20, Nigeria as a nation was fractured!

For Spring/Summer 22, Oshobor Odion Peter, the creative director of Oshobor explores the feeling of being broken. A finalist at the Arts Africa Festival held in Benin city, Nigeria and the just concluded Design Fashion Africa sponsored by Heineken, makes it out of the competition with a principal brand that is set to make his debut on the 20th of November with the collection, Fractured.

In times past, I saw, heard and witnessed stories and incidents of various individuals who were lost, toyed with, molested, disgraced, misunderstood, lost either parent, became orphans, and it led me to telling this story through the visual art of androgynous fashion. I went down a memory lane as I recollect occasions and elements that got me fractured. “While preparing this collection, I got even more fractured than I’ve ever been” says Odion.
In a bid to accentuate our brand ethos and vision, traditional and emotional elements are fused. Elements like the “Ghilllie suit” is exemplified in the collection as it represents those who have been fractured as a result of “blending in”, the “Igunnuko” reminds me of how most children in my vicinity broke tiny bits of their bones each time we ran away from the long masquerades as they dance into our streets, the “locks of love” represent love. The love we have around ourselves when we are of a fallen race, the “broken bones and red blood cells” represent our feelings from within, while the shooting stars represent us.
